When it’s in Sport mode with the active exhaust it sounds like a legit M car.

Whoa, awesome! I was pretty pumped for the M 240i, but the new X3s are irresistible in BMW’ s current portfolio. Onc e again congrats! What happened? Just change of heart?
I’ve actually been emailing a local dealer about one this week. Luckily for my wallet, they can’t find my ideal spec (Pythonic Blue over Cognac, loaded to the gills minus 21” wheels). Hoping to make it happen (probably order) some time in the fall/winter. Have to sell my A4 Avant first at the very least.

The M240i just isn’t gonna work. I’m a big guy, with a bad knee and a bad hip. Plus RWD sports coupes are tough to have as an only car in VA. We get all seasons around here.

Rated at 355. Closer to 400 every time they strap one to a dyno.

I hear you. I’m not a big guy, but the X3 is currently one generation ahead of all the other small BMWs anyway. The 3-series will have caught up once the M340 starts shipping, but then it’ll still be a first model year BMW. Plus no hatchback option of any kind (would have to wait for the new 4 Gran Coupe who knows when), which I want. You ended up with a much better interior, technology, and possibly steering vs the 240

I can confirm that the G-Chassis steering trumps pretty much any F (I’m not an F-Chassis hater by any means I love my 4).
And M340i’s are already out. We’ve already sold one.

So where do you stand re: M340i vs X3 M40i?

Both are magnificent. They’re complimentary cars it really just comes down to what you want out of the car. The M340i being a sedan and having the diff hardware is the sharper car but if you’re looking for the ultimate straddling of fun and practical the X3 is the easy choice.
